Lead Carpenter

Chapman Building Company, a residential building company in Brevard NC, is seeking a responsible and enthusiastic individual to help construct our projects and manage on-site CBC team members. The successful candidate will work closely with our growing team of professionals to integrate and provide management and lead a team of carpenters and laborers. The candidate will play an integral role in the on time, within budget, and high quality project completion. This is an hourly position with pay ranging from $22-$28/hr based on experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Maintain a genuine interest in learning about residential construction and staying up-to-date with current industry trends and practices.

  • Comfortable using digital communication tools such as group texting, email, and cloud-based communication platforms.

  • Research and gather information independently while also being comfortable asking for help when needed.

  • Daily communication with diverse groups of people, clients, trade partners, office staff, job supervisors, city officials, and salespeople to ensure timely completion of projects.

  • Foster good communication and respect at all levels of the project team.

  • Comprehensive experience with rough carpentry, framing, and finish carpentry.

  • Strong understanding of the IRC and NC residential construction codes.

  • Basic carpentry tool set required. CBC will provide stipends for replacement, additional, and specialty tools. 

  • Leadership experience on the job site.

  • Have a basic understanding of budgets.

  • Ability to complete custom home framing, and renovation carpentry.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.

  • Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs.

  • Proactive in keeping projects moving forward and anticipating issues that will affect short, medium, and long-term goals for projects

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.

  • Clean driving record for operation of company vehicle(s) 

  • Personal vehicle to get to and from worksites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior residential or commercial construction experience or education.

  • Knowledge and experience with the North Carolina residential building code.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
